(17) Question
Where should I place the Infra-red receiver for best coverage?
Answer
Because the IR device uses infrared technology and line-of-sight communication, place it in a central location in the front of the room where it is high enough for everyone to see. The effective range of an IR device receiver is about 30 metres. You will need to install one receiver for every 80 participants.

(18) Question
What is the range the Radio RF Receiver?
Answer
The effective range of an RF receiver is about 70 metres. A single receiver is sufficient for up to 1000 keypads. Additional receivers can be added to allow for more keypads. Radio frequency does not rely on line-of-sight communication, when the receiver is connected, the participant simply had to press (and release) a button on the keypad to send a response.

(19) Question
Why can’t the Response Device Wizard find the receiver on the correct COM port?
Answer
If you are using a Keyspan adapter (USB to serial), then you must install the Keyspan software. To download the software, first disconnect the Keyspan adapter from the computer. Then, go to the Keyspand Web site and http://www.keyspand/com/ and follow the instructions to download. If your Keyspand adapter was connected during installation, then you need to remove the software, disconnect the adapter, and install it again.
Check to make sure the hardware is connected by unplugging the receiver and plugging it back in. Run the Response Device Wizard again.
If you are using a PDA or other device (eg. mobile phone software), make sure that it is not using the COM port.

(25) Question
Why don't my infra-red keypad numbers match up with the numbers on my response grid?
Answer
This is due to the keypad type being selected as Fixed ID rather than Programmable ID in the Hardware Wizard settings . All you need to do to rectify this, is click the lightening bolt, restart the hardware wizard and follow the set up prompts until you reach the screen that asks you to set your keypad range. In the white box, ResponseCard FIXED ID would be evident. To change this, simply right click on the text and select ResponseCard PROGRAMMABLE ID from the drop down menu.
